Save Babies Through Screening Foundation has always depended on the generosity of people like you to carry out its mission of preventing disabilities and death resulting from disorders detectable through newborn screening. Our driving force has been--and continues to be--our volunteers. Individuals are needed to give their time and talent to help in a variety of ways.

Save Babies Through Screening Foundation volunteers believe that all babies deserve the healthiest possible start in life. They find it totally unacceptable that in our technology-driven society babies suffer preventable brain damage and death due to inadequate newborn screening. It is this passion to save the lives of babies that drives our volunteers to raise awareness of newborn screening and the technology which can save lives.

SBTS Foundation volunteers, who are located throughout the country, hold fund-raisers, speak with health care professionals, serve on state newborn screening advisory committees, give presentations at conferences, visit their state public health laboratories, participate in public hearings, and design materials for distribution. They participate in health fairs, make referrals, and hand out pamphlets and posters to spread the word about newborn screening. They teach expectant parents about the risks of minimal, state-mandated screening and tell them how to acquire expanded screening for their babies. Many volunteers also serve as Save Babies Through Screening monitors in our Eye on National Newborn Screening program.

Some contact the media to tell their personal stories of children lost or suffering. Some manage projects to expand our outreach, and others solicit funds to support those projects. Some lend their clerical skills to the tasks of record-keeping, typing, telephoning, organizing, or preparing mailings, while others spend time "newborn screaming" to all who will listen.

Save Babies Through Screening Foundation volunteers differ in their roles, but they have a common purpose: to save babies! It takes all of us to keep this foundation running. To date, all activities by Save Babies Through Screening Foundation are performed by volunteers.
