Disorders Screened in North Dakota

North Dakota does NOT provide the full panel of screenings recommended by Save Babies Through Screening Foundation. Parents should seek supplemental screening for the disorders and conditions not included in the state's panel.

The disorders that are screened, or likely to be detected, by your state's program are identified by the National Newborn Screening and Genetics Resource Center in simplified format or in PDF format.

General Information
Effective April 1, 2003, North Dakota added MCAD Deficiency, Biotinidase Deficiency, and Hemoglobinopathies/Sickle Cell Anemia to its testing panel. In August, 2004, the state expanded reporting to 37 disorders, including 30 disorders that had been tested since November 15, 2002 , through an Iowa laboratory tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) pilot test. All positive cases from the pilot received follow-up.

Testing for the North Dakota Newborn Metabolic Screening Program is done by the Iowa Neonatal Newborn Screening Program's laboratory.
