Disorders Screened in New Mexico

New Mexico does NOT require the full panel of screenings recommended by Save Babies Through Screening Foundation. Parents may wish to obtain supplemental screening for the disorders and conditions not included in the state's panel.

The disorders that are screened, or likely to be detected, by your state's program are identified by the National Newborn Screening and Genetics Resource Center in simplified format or in PDF format.

General Information

New Mexico expanded its newborn screening panel on January 1, 2007, to include the 28 disorders identified through dried blood-spot screening per the Core Panel of the American College of Medical Genetics (ACMG).

New Mexico passed a bill to cover medical diets for genetic inborn errors of metabolism. The bill was set to go into effect on July 1, 2003. Residents should check on this coverage before assuming expenses are covered.
