Disorders Screened in Arkansas
Arkansas does NOT provide the
full panel of screenings
recommended by Save Babies Through Screening Foundation. Parents should seek
supplemental
screening for the disorders and conditions not included in the state's panel.
The disorders that are screened, or likely to be detected, by your state's
program are identified by the
National Newborn Screening and Genetics Resource Center in simplified format
or in
PDF format.

General Information
A few years ago in Arkansas, legislation was being proposed to add six disorders
detectable by using tandem mass
spectrometry (MS/MS) to the newborn screening panel. The additional tests would have been
Glutaric Acidemia
Type I (GA-I),
Maple Syrup Urine Disease (MSUD),
Medium Chain
Acyl-CoA Dehydrogenase Deficiency (MCADD),
Methylmalonic Aciduria (MMA),
Propionic
Acidemia (PA), and
Isovaleric Acidemia (IVA). (January, 2001)
As of yet, these additions have not occurred. (April, 2006)
