Disorders Screened in Alaska
Alaska does NOT provide the
full panel of screenings
recommended by Save Babies Through Screening Foundation. Parents should seek
supplemental
screening for the disorders and conditions not included in the state's panel.
The disorders that are screened, or likely to be detected, by your state's
program are identified by the
National Newborn Screening and Genetics Resource Center in simplified format
or in PDF format.

General Information
Alaska added more than 25 disorders on October 1, 2003, with the addition of
tandem mass spectrometry. Along with four other states (Hawaii, Idaho, Oregon, and Nevada), Alaska participates in the regional
newborn screening program provided by the Oregon State Newborn Screening Laboratory.
Newborn Screening Advisory Committee
Alaska has a Newborn Metabolic Screening (NBMS) Advisory Committee which
discusses concerns or changes for the program.
